The availability of diverse media increased the choices available to both writers and readers, while having a direct impact on literary forms and styles. At the same time, the rise of new institutions, such as the modern publishing house and the editorial offices of journals, created unprecedented opportunities for writers to interact and participate in the larger processes of literary production and circulation.
